Note: The men’s and women’s steeplechases, the last two events of the day, are being postponed because of weather (presumably bad weather!). UPDATE: These events will now be contested on Saturday morning.

Heps athletes continued to post strong showings at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Belk Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., earning spots at the NCAA Championships, slated for Eugene, Ore., two weekends from now.

Brown junior Craig Kinsley was the top performer of Day Two with his victory in the javelin throw. His best mark of 238-7 was more than seven feet further than the rest of the competition. Another junior thrower from Brown, Brynn Smith, is heading to Eugene after she qualified in the hammer with a 12th-place mark of 185-1.

The most notable performance on the women’s side came from Columbia sophomore Sharay Hale, who ran 52.45 in the 400-meter dash to qualify for Oregon. With that time, she becomes the first Ivy Leaguer to ever run within a second of Meredith Rainey’s League record mark of 51.56.

Yale junior Kate Grace also advanced by running 2:04.22 for 800 meters, joining a small and illustrious group of Ivy women to ever run sub-2:05. She is the fifth such runner to achieve that mark along with Rainey, Cornell’s Doriane Lambelet and Morgan Uceny and Princeton’s Lauren Simmons. Grace wasn’t the only 800m advancer from Heps as Yale senior Chris Labosky (1:47.74) did so on the men’s side and Cornell junior Kim Standridge (2:05.37) for the women.

Princeton senior Justin Frick also punched his national ticket with a clearance of 7-1 in the high jump. He cleared that height after missing twice, but he would have advanced with a miss regardless.

Heading to Eugene after most of Day Two:

800: Chris Labosky, Yale
10k: Duriel Hardy, Brown
High jump: Justin Frick, Princeton
Javelin: Craig Kinsley, Brown

WOMEN
