Men’s Preview: Columbia Lions

A year ago the Lions took the Heps championship with a one-point victory over Princeton and now the defending champions, according to Coach Willy Wood, have “the expectation will be for them to run as such.” … Senior Brendan Martin [Smithtown, N.Y.] paced the Light Blue to that narrow title last year and now his classmate Tom Poland [Morristown, N.J.] is battling him for the team leadership … Poland was the team’s top finisher at both the Indiana State Pre-Nationals (40th) and the Paul Short Invitational (27th) … Coach Wood says that three other seniors — Terence Prial [Warwick, N.Y.], Anthony Merra [Amherst, N.H.] and Dustin Martin [Albuquerque, N.M.] — will be “the driving force behind our team’s performance.” … Sophomore Mark Feigen [East Greenwich, R.I.] won the New York Metropolitan Championships, leading Columbia to the team title.
