First-year coach Jill Miller has some good news as her Bears look to break into the top half of the Heps standings on Friday … Four of the five scorers from last season’s fifth-place team return and a newcomer, freshman Margaret Connelly [Chicago, Ill.] has stepped into the team’s leading role by garnering the team’s top spot at both the Iona Meet of Champions and the Paul Short Invitational … And she isn’t the team’s only talented youngster … “We have a group of women that have been training very well together,” said Miller. “Connelly and fellow freshman Heidi Caldwell [Hanover, N.H.] are picking up momentum with every workout and sophomore Elaine Kuckertz [Clarendon Hills, Ill.] has shown her combination of strength and speed. It has been exciting to watch their progress.” … But Miller will also look to a pair of Heps veterans — senior Lauren Pischel [LaJolla, Calif.] and junior Ari Garber [North Falmouth, Mass.] — to show the way.
