Recordbreakers
The 1979 Heps were the first fully metric Games for women, which meant that several records were established because it was the first time the events were contested. The eight individual and three relay events contested for the first time yielded these new recordholders — Laurie Parker of Brown in the 100m dash (:12.9) and the 200m dash (:25.9); Loretta Clarke of Cornell in the 400m dash (:57.4); Eve Thompson of Princeton in the 800m run (2:18.4) and 1,500m run (4:49.3); Anne Sullivan of Brown in the 3,000m run (10:01.2) and 5,000m run (16:59.0); Liza Casanova of Brown in the 400m hurdles (1:06.8); the Cornell 4x100m (:48.6) and 4x400m (4:04.4) relays; and the Princeton 4x800m relay (9:23.3).
